MUSHROOMS VS MYCELIUM
For thousands of years, mushrooms have been used by the world’s great holistic traditions for their health benefits. Today, countless Americans use them as supplements. However, most “mushroom” products are not mushrooms at all. They are mycelia.
Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of fungi that grow up through the ground. Mycelia are root-like structures that grow underground. Because mycelia that grows in the wild are too fragile to harvest, those in supplements are grown in plastic bags on rice or other grains. As they mature, they become part of the grain. Because they cannot later be separated, what ends up in your capsule is over 50% grain.

Heavy Metal Testing
Is MyPure™ MYcoMune™/MyPure™ MYcoMune™ 4X safe to take if you have kidney stones?
Some mushrooms, like those in our MyPure™ formulas, do contain trace amounts of oxalates and salicylates which are known to cause kidney stones. However, this amount is very minimal – ½ mg per one capsule.
Typical dietary intake of oxalates is from 200 to 300 mg per day and comes mostly from beans, green leafy vegetables, coffee, etc. Those at risk for kidney stones are advised to keep daily oxalate intake at no more than 100 mg. Given these recommendations, the oxalates in MyPure™ mushroom formulas are insignificant.*
Dietary salicylates come mostly from fruits, vegetables, coffee, and spices but are also found in meats, fish, and fowl. Like oxalates, they’re present in all healthy foods. Typical American diets provide from 10 to 200 mg of daily salicylates. Those with salicylate sensitivity (a very rare issue) should keep salicylates in the lower range. Fresh mushrooms contain about .1 to .25 mg of salicylates per 100 grams. Each capsule of MyPure™ MYcoMune™/MYcoMune™ 4x would be expected to contain about 1/20th of that amount. In other words, it would take from 800 to 1600 capsules to get to 10 mg of total salicylates.*
MyPure™ mushroom formulas are not a significant source of oxalates of salicylates. However, if you have specific issues with these dietary factors, you should consult your health care professional before using any product that might contain them.*
How do you determine the total mg amount of mushrooms in MyPure™ MYcoMune™/MyPure™ MYcoMune™ 4X?
The basics of mushroom extraction are simple. Unnecessary factors are removed to concentrate mushroom nutrition into a smaller space. In a 1:1 extract, only water is removed. Since mushrooms are over 90% water, a 1:1 extract is about 10 times more concentrated than a fresh mushroom. In other words, a 500 mg capsule represents about 5000 mg of fresh mushroom nutrition.
Stronger extracts delete other factors, like indigestible fibers. These factors may constitute up to 90% of mushroom powder after water is removed and increase the concentration by another factor of 10. This would mean that a 500 mg capsule could contain as much nutrition as 50,000 mg of fresh mushrooms.
Extracts are expressed as ratios to give a basic concept of how much fresh food nutrition the extract contains. To determine the fresh mushroom nutrition equivalent found in MyPure™ MYcoMune™ or MyPure™ MYcoMune™ 4X, first, multiply the first number of the ratio by 10 (to represent the removal of water). Then multiply that number by the amount of the extract that is present in the capsule.
1. MyPure™ MYcoMune™ contains 100 mg of cordyceps 1:1 extract, 100 mg of reishi 1:1 extract, 75 mg of chaga 1:1 extract, 75 mg of lion's mane 1:1 extract, 75 mg of maitake 1:1 extract, and 75 mg of shiitake 1:1 extract.

2. Multiply the amounts of each extract present by the numbers derived from step one.

MyPure™ MYcoMune™ 4X contains 200 mg of reishi 1:1 extract, 100 mg of shiitake 4:1 extract, 50 mg of chaga 8:1 extract, 50 mg of lion's mane 8:1 extract, 40 mg of cordyceps 10:1 extract, 40 mg of maitake 10:1 extract, and 25 mg of reishi 8:1 extract.
Step one – multiply the first number of the extract ratio by 10.

All of the mushrooms are hot water extracted to liberate beta-glucans and other phytochemicals from indigestible fibers. After extraction, the water is evaporated to leave behind a powdered extract.
